The Continence Advisory Service will be
highlighting the
important role that
water plays in maintaining bladder & bowel health during the Inaugural
Waterworks Week. The week aims to encourage
people improve their health by drinking water.
Waterworks Week will be held from 7th-13th April 2008.
Many of us don't drink enough water each day, whether it's
because we're too busy, prefer the taste of other drinks or need that caffeine
to perk us up. Water is vital to bladder and bowel health as well as
general wellbeing. However, if you have been advised by a health professional to
limit your fluid intake, this advice should be followed.
Often when signs of a bladder problem arise the first thing
many people do is restrict their water intake. Although it sounds contradictory,
drinking water will help improve or maintain bladder and bowel health.
Water dilutes urine to stop irritation and also flushes out the bladder to reduce the
risk of urinary tract infections. Having a good fluid intake can also help to
overcome constipation problems.
The
Continence Advisory Service would like to challenge you to make water your first
choice each day during Waterworks Week.
For a tally sheet to keep track of your
progress or to register your workplace/community group for the challenge fill
out a registration form and fax to (08) 9389 8001 or send to PO Box 719 Nedlands WA 6909. If you have any queries please call our Information & Liaison Officer
on (08) 9386 9777.
